The Northwestern University Philosophy Department presents the Distinguished Alumni Lecture
Background
Proud of its many distinguished alumni, the Philosophy Department at Northwestern has decided to initiate an annual Distinguished Alumni Lecture, to be delivered by one of our distinguished alumni each year. The goals of the event are several: first, to give one of our distinguished alumni the opportunity to reflect on the relevance of her/his undergraduate training in philosophy to her/his post-college career; second, to give our many individual alumni an opportunity to return to campus once a year, to reconnect with old friends and meet other alumni from NU's Philosophy Department, and to meet our current crop of majors and minors; and third, to give our current majors and minors the opportunity to meet our alumni, to get a sense of the variety of possible careers that might await one with a B.A. in philosophy, and to begin to develop an early career network for themselves.
The event will involve a lecture focusing on the relevance of an education in philosophy to the lecturer's post-college career, followed by a cocktail reception (including hors d'oeuvres).
This year's inaugural Distinguished Alumni Lecture will be delivered by Dan O'Keefe (BA 1993)
