Terry Pinkard, Chair

Ph. D. State University of New York at Stony Brook. His interests include German philosophy from Kant to the present, particularly the period covering the development from Kant to Hegel. He has also published in philosophy of law, political philosophy, and bioethics. His most recent books include Hegel's Phenomenology: The Sociality of Reason (Cambridge, 1994) and Hegel: A Biography (Cambridge: 2000). He has had fellowships from the German Academic Exchange Service and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In 1998, he was made an "Honorary Professor" (Ehrenprofessor) and "Honorary Teacher" (Ehrenlehrbeauftragte) at Tübingen University, Germany. He serves as Advisor to the Editorial board (Mitwirker zur Redaktionsbeirat) for the Zeitschrift für philosophische Forschung. His new book is German Philosophy 1760-1860: The Legacy of Idealism (Cambridge UP, 2002). Currently, he is working on a translation of Hegel's Phänomenologie des Geistes for Cambridge University Press.
